Description	:	Edwin Meyer was born April 1, 1925, in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Adam Meyer. He had three brothers: Ervin, Alfred, and Arnold and six sisters: Irene, Olinda, Nettie, Louella, Lena, and Betty. Edwin went by the name Eddie while he was growing up and going to school in Miller, South Dakota. He graduated in May 1943. During high school he worked at the J.C. Penney's Store in Miller. Read More	Edwin Meyer was born April 1, 1925, in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Adam Meyer. He had three brothers: Ervin, Alfred, and Arnold and six sisters: Irene, Olinda, Nettie, Louella, Lena, and Betty. Edwin went by the name Eddie while he was growing up and going to school in Miller, South Dakota. He graduated in May 1943. During high school he worked at the J.C. Penney's Store in Miller. On June 20, 1943, he enlisted in the Army. He attended basic training at Camp Roberts, California. He had a short furlough where he came home and then he was sent to Ft. Ord. Christmas Day of 1943, he was on his way to the Pacific Theatre. While in the Pacific, Meyer was first in New Zealand and New Caledonia. While in the Philippines, Sgt. Edwin Meyer participated in five battles for the islands. He was then stricken with typhus fever and died June 23, 1945, in an army hospital on Luzon Island.
