Two Area Deaths Reported From Holiday Wrecks Condition "Critical" For Injured Woman The Thanksgiving holiday was saddened by the death of two persons as result of area traffic accidents. George L. “Buddy” Arbogast, 27. son of George L. Arbogast, Sr. and Mae Cline Arbogast, 326 Crawford Street, died at Allegany Hospital early Thursday of injuries sustained when his car crashed against a large boulder at the intersection of Routes 36 and 47 at Barrelville. Robert T. Wolford, 17. son of Charles E. and Rosie Hott Wolford, Augusta, W. Va., died about midnight Wednesday of injuries suffered when his car went through a fence and overturned several times one mile east of Route 28 on Death Valley Road near Ridgeley, W. Va. A cerebral hemorrhage resulting from a fractured skull was blamed for his death. Miss Eva Arlene Whetsell, 20, 1320 Virginia Avenue, who was riding with Arbogast was reported last night as still in "critical" condition at Allegany Hospital. She suffered fractures fo the upper and lower jaws, possible skull fracture and multiple lacerations. Maryland State Police said Arbogast, a veteran of World War II, was apparently traveling at a fast rate of speed when his machine failed to negotiate a curve and hit the bolder. The Mt. Savage ambulance took both to Allegany Hospital where Arbogast died. Dr. H. V. Deming, deputy county medical examiner, said death was caused by pulmonary hemorrhage due to punctured lungs and fractured ribs. Arbogast also sustained a fractured ankle, abrasions of the knees and ankles and lacerations. Trooper Charles DeWitt investigated. He was a member of Lodge No. 60, Knights of Pythias; Lodge No. 237 DOKK; Grace Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the congregation. Survivors include two brothers, Ross Arbogast, Chicago, and John Arbogast, this city, and two step-sisters, Mrs. Thomas Gray, Cumberland, and Mrs. Virginia Finn, Chicago. A service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Grace Methodist Church with Rev. A. B. L. Fisher, pastor, officiating. Arbogast, Sr., 326 Crawford street, celebrated Christmas, complete with tree and lights upon his arrival home last night. Christmas dinner will be served Sunday. Pfc. Arbogast arrived from Greenland, where he spent the past 23 months with the fiance section of the Army. It is his first furlough since he entered the Army in February, 1943. A graduate of Fort Hill High School in 1942, Pfc. Arbogast was employed at the Western Maryland Railway offices before going into uniform. With the fir, he sent a series of color photographs showing Eskimo life and arctic scenery, and a description of icebergs, plant life and Eskimo customs.
