Description	:	Gerald Adrian Gravning was born 22 May 1933 in Hettinger, Adams Co., ND to Clarence Gravning and Wanda Marine Carroll. He was baptized in Richland Church and confirmed in Hettinger Lutheran Church in 1947. Jerry entered the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and was crew chief for several years, serving at bases in Texas, California, South Carolina and Tripoli,Lybia,Africa. He reached the rank of S/Sgt. Read More	Gerald Adrian Gravning was born 22 May 1933 in Hettinger, Adams Co., ND to Clarence Gravning and Wanda Marine Carroll. He was baptized in Richland Church and confirmed in Hettinger Lutheran Church in 1947. Jerry entered the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and was crew chief for several years, serving at bases in Texas, California, South Carolina and Tripoli,Lybia,Africa. He reached the rank of S/Sgt. When he returned from his tour of duty he was again stationed in California where he was united in marriage to Peggy Sue Mattox on 3 May 1958. They had two children, Leslie Irene and Robert Lee. They were transferred to Chanute Field, IL, near Chicago where he attended weather observation school. From there they went to Great Falls, MT and then Jerry went to Korea for 18 mos., then on to Savannah, GA, and back to Chanute.on 8 Jan 1965, he was transferred to Whiteman AFB at Knob Noster, MO, where he was stationed until the time of his death on 23 Dec 1965. He lost his life as a result of an automobile accident. He had been in the USAF for 15 years and had planned to make it his career. His father, preceded him in death on 1 May 1957. He was survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter Leslie Irene and son Robert Lee Gravning; his mother, Wanda Gravning of Hettinger, ND; two sisters, Audrey (Milton) Jenner) of Fargo, ND, and Corrine (David) Fossen of Bismarck, ND; and one brother, Lynn (Janys) Gravning of Bismarck. M/Sgt. John Cherry from Whiteman AFB, MO was the military escort to brought Gerald back to Hettinger for burial with full military honors. Honor Guard, Rifle firing squad, and Bugler were from Ellsworth AFB, SD.
