Description	:	Son of John Joseph Lindsay and Lizzie Carmichael. About age 17 Douglass immigrated to the United States, first staying with his mother's brother Alfred Carmichael, a lawyer living in a suburb of Chicago. Douglass decided to settle in Chicago, working as an insurance adjuster. By 1940 he had submitted his first papers for naturalisation. When WWII broke out he was a Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Forces, the predecessor to the US Air Force. His younger brother Burt was great friends with my dad (his cousin) when they were young. James' middle name, Douglass, comes from the clan of his maternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Dougless, from Dumfries-shire, Scotland.
