He was a World War II... Read More	Clarence Marcus Zirbes, 91, Stillwater, formerly of Castlewood, SD, died on Apr 16, 2011, in Stillwater. He was born on Jun 22, 1919 in Castlewood to John P. Zirbes and Catherine 'Kate' (Gergen) Zirbes. He married Shirley Smith on Sep 6, 1948 in Watertown, SD. He attended country school and Castlewood High School. the two lived in Castlewood, where they raised their children, Brent, Tim, and Jill. Johnny and Shirley spent their winters in Harlingen, TX and, most recently, Stillwater, OK. He was a member of the American Legion and St. John's Catholic Church in Castlewood. He was a World War II veteran and was in General Patton's 3rd Army and was ranked a 1st sergeant. He was also a part of the armored tank division and had an award for a European Campaign. After he retired from the service, Johnny ran a car dealership for several years, before he became mail carrier for the Castlewood Post Office. He was Castlewood's mail carrier for 35 years. During this time, Johnny began an antique store on Main Street in Castlewood. He loved attending auctions and was a well-known and often-expected presence at area estate sales. He spent most summer days in his shop, mending and cleaning his finds. Zirbes Antiques has been featured in both the Watertown Public Opinion and Argus Leader, and an internet search will turn up more than one page dedicated to Johnny and his store by travel bloggers. Survivors include two sons, Brent Zirbes of Canyon, TX, and Tim Zirbes of San Mateo, CA; one daughter, Jill Boggs of Stillwater; and four grandchildren.
