Read More	From Monte Railsback This is the article I wrote on Mark for the Shellsburg Pride: The individual we recognize this month who gave his all in the defense of our country is Sergeant Mark Reynolds Jr. who was 21 years old and a tail gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Sergeant Reynolds was the son of Mark and Marie Reynolds and Marie was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. You may have not known his sisters but most of you know his nephew, Scooby Mullinex who is the son of Mark's sister, Audrey. Mark's parents were notified that he was missing since 24 March 1945 in a bombing raid over Germany. Sergeant Reynolds was employed by Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, California when he entered service in December 1944. He was home on furlough in December 1944 and went overseas in January 1945. In the last letter received by his parents dated 23 March 1945, he said he had completed 17 missions over Germany and that he had been awarded the Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster. It was later learned that Sergeant Reynolds was shot down over Germany on his 18th mission and now lays at rest in the National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa.
