Description	:	Obituary Stephen W. Jenkins was born in Orleans County, Vermont, Feb. 22 1841 and died at the Battle Mountain Sanitarium, Hot Springs, S. Dak., from an attack of acute indigestion, July 12, 1916 at 5:00 o'clock a.m. aged 75 years, 4 months and 26 days. His boyhood days were spent on a farm near Newport Center, Vermont. Dak., from an attack of acute indigestion, July 12, 1916 at 5:00 o'clock a.m. aged 75 years, 4 months and 26 days. His boyhood days were spent on a farm near Newport Center, Vermont. At the age of twenty, when the United States Government issued a call for volunteers at the beginning of the civil war, he enlisted with Company B, Third Regiment, Vermont Infantry and served with the Army of the Potomac for a period of nineteen months after which time he was honorably discharged as a sargent [sic] on account of general disability. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Francelia Sias and to this union were born two sons, Parker B. and Clinton C. Jenkins, both of this city. Mr. Jenkins was one of the earliest pioneers of this locality, coming to Waubay from Vermont in 1882, and has been a resident here since that time. He enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.T. Janes, Chaplain, at Battle Mountain Sanitarium and the remains interred with military honors in the National cemetery, at Hot Springs. Printed in the Waubay (SD) Clipper on 20 Jul 1916.
