| Description | : | Willie (Wiley) Jackson Brickey was born in 1874 to Elder William J. and Susannah Caylor Brickey. Willie was an American Hero being awarded a posthumous Distinguished Service Cross for bravery in 1933. In August, 1899, 36 men from Blount County left Maryville for Camp Mead, PA to join Co., 'H' of the 47th Voluntary Infantry. They reached the Philippines by way of the Suez Canal, and had their first engagement in January 1900. The men from Blount Co. gave an excellent account of themselves.
