A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (August 8, 2014) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 E. Elm St., Rockwell, with the Rev. Rodney Allers as Celebrant. Committal services will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell. Sharon Kay Koppen was born on March 3, 1940 in Rockwell, the youngest child of William and Clara (Nielson) Koppen. She attended and graduated from the Rockwell High School among the class of 1958. On June 18, 1960 she was united in marriage to Paul Bamrick at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Shortly after their nuptials the couple moved to Dubuque so Paul could attend Loras College. Throughout the next few years Paul, Sharon, and their growing family made their home in Superior, WI, Mason City, and Webster City before returning and settling in Rockwell. Sharon was well known throughout Rockwell for her famous beef burgers and potato salad, a recipe she just shared in the Sacred Heart Cook Book last year! She spent 25 years as the cook for Kelly's Kitchen where she would draw folks from all around town in for her delicious food, making friendships there all along the way. In earlier years she was delighted to host a chili supper for the football team before every home game in Rockwell. Each player knew that they could get their fill of chili, but weren't leaving without getting a blessing with Holy Water for their safety during the game as well. Sharon truly loved life; she loved her annual ladies' shopping trip after their Thanksgiving Day meal, "cutting a rug" whenever the opportunity arose, and traveling the United States with Paul and their siblings. Sharon and Paul were always sure to take the scenic route on their journeys to insure they didn't miss any "off the beaten path" stops along the way. She especially loved stopping and spending times at different churches they would encounter. Sharon joined the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Gallagher Post 208 in 1979; her devotion to her country was evident as she spent 18 years as Auxiliary President and spent countless years helping set up and hand out poppeys, flags, and bouquets for Memorial Day in Rockwell. Throughout the past 10 years she and Paul's relationship grew even closer as Sharon battled health issues. Paul was her constant caregiver and spent nearly every waking moment as her side. And even though her health suffered at times, she always amazed her family at being "the little engine that could!" Sharon and family were especially grateful to the providers at Mercy Medical Center and West Campus, the Rockwell EMS, the Rockwell Community Care Center, and the Mason City Fire Department for their devotion to her well being over the years. Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Paul Bamrick of Rockwell; her loving children, Kim (Ken) McLaughlin, Rockwell, Steve (Pamela) Bamrick, Adams, Minn., Bill (Kim) Bamrick, Rockwell, Mike (Michelle) Bamrick, Garner, and Deb (Brian) Petrak, Johnston; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) Severin, Katie (Dylan) Abell, Danielle McLaughlin and her significant other, Matt Gronek, Chelsea (Mike) Brandon, Josh Bamrick and his significant other, Alana Padron, Whitney Bamrick, Shana (Nick) Rohlfsen, Jena Bamrick and her significant other, Zach Zirbel, Cole Bamrick and his significant other, Chelsea Doyl, Payton Bamrick, Cade Bamrick, Amber Petrak, Nathan Petrak, and Leann Petrak; her great grandchildren, Brady, Carson, Maddison, and Denver; her sisters, Jean DiGregorio and Marcile Murphy; her brothers in law, Martin Bamrick, Joe (Jean) Bamrick, Jack (Eunice) Bamrick, Dick (Pat) Bamrick, and Joe Kapler; her sisters in law, Mary Skyles, Marge Nowell, and Bridget (Tawfik) Sohl; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clarence and Howard Koppen; sisters in law, Helen Kapler and Nancy Bamrick; and brothers in law, Paris DiGregorio, Vince Murphy, Bob Skyles, and Jim Nowell.
