Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. She was born on Oct. 9, 1935, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Irene (Dolphin) Kane. She attended Immaculate Conception (I.C.) High School, Dubuque, and graduated from St. Martin's High School, Cascade. She then graduated from Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a teaching degree. In her early years, Sheila taught in a one-room schoolhouse at West St. Joseph's School, Dubuque, and then at St. Patrick's, North Garryowen. Later in life, while raising her family, she was a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in Dubuque. She married James V. Finn on June 9, 1959, at St. Joseph's Prairie, Dubuque. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June. She met Jim at The Melody Mill in Dubuque, and they both enjoyed going to many Big Band dances throughout the rest of her life. She was a member of St. Columbkille's Church for 40 years and the rosary society. Sheila enjoyed sewing, reading, taking walks, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and watching the Lawrence Welk Show and the Chicago Cubs. She had a deep religious faith and prayed from her little prayer book until it was nearly worn out. She loved to travel with Jim and was most proud when she finally made it to see Ireland. She even kissed the Blarney Stone, and anyone close to her knew her favorite number was nine. Surviving are her husband, Jim; three children, Charlotte (Ron) Leick, of Dubuque, David (Sandra) Finn, of San Diego, and Paul (Cheryl) Finn, of Modesto, Calif.; her grandchildren, Kyle (special friend, Kerstein Hartley) Leick, of Dubuque, Randi Finn, of Phoenix, and Taylor and Connor Finn, of San Diego; a brother, John K. (Patty) Kane, of Epworth, Iowa; brothers-and sisters-in-law, Justin (Dolores) Finn, of Sherrill, Iowa, Rosemary Gessner, of Newhall, Iowa, Tommy (Rita) Finn, of Marion, Iowa, Grace Claus, of Cascade, Iowa, and Ray (Mary) Finn of Temple Hill, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law, Herman Claus and Arnold Gessner; and a niece, Ruth Claus.
