Shelby H England Sr., a resident of Red Oak for a number ears and formerly of Griswold and Elliott, passed away Friday noon, May 1. Mr England passed away at the Cottage Rest HOme in Red Oak where he had resided the past several years. Shelby H. England was born at Springfield, Illinois on September 2, 1881, being a son of the late Milan and Eva Bishop England and had reached the advanced age of 81 years, 8 months, and 8 days. On October 14, 1903 Mr. England was united in marriage to Mary Pearl Peck of Pilot Grove Township and they farmed in the Elliott and Griswold communities for many years. Mrs. England preceded her husband in death, passing on January 29, 1953. Surviving are seven children. They are Elvin and Gaylord England of Red Oak; Shelby England Jr. of Griswold, Kermit England of Stanton, Mrs. Loretta Kvaal of Madison, Illinois, Mrs. Mattie Barr and Mrs. Vera Ray of Griswold. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Annie Martin and two brothers, Leslie and Will England. Mr. England was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two children, William and Eva Howell. Funeral services are held Monday from the Methodist Church in Elliot with Rev. Clarence Landis officiating. The music was by Mrs. Clarence Landis and Sharon Landis, accompanied by Grant Justice. Pall bearers were grandsons of the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gammell were floral committee. Interment was made in the family lot in Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Clarence Landis officiating and burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Elliott, with Wagler's Funeral Home of Griswold in charge. Mr. England was born September 2, 1881 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He was married to Pearl Peck and they lived at Elliott, Griswold, and Red Oak all their married life. He died Saturday, May 11, 1963, at a Red Oak nursing home. He is survived by three daughter, Mrs. Frank Ray and Mrs. Neil Barr of Griswold and Mrs. Loretta Kavaal of Madison, Illinois; four sons, Kermit of Stanton, Shelby Jr., of Griswold and Elwin and Gaylord, both of Red Oak; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
