Shepard Hickle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reason Hickle, was born April 6, 1848, in Ross County, Ohio. He was the eldest of a family of eight children, of which four have preceded him in death. He was married to Emily Wilcox on Nov. 26, 1874, and to this union were born six children, three of whom have passed into eternity before him. Mr. Hickle farmed until 1899, when the family moved to Clarksville, Iowa. In 1907, they moved to Sac County, where they lived for two years, then moved to Cedar Falls. It was there that his wife died in 1913, and since that time, Mr. Hickle has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Mann, of Lake View. For the last two years, Mr. Hickle has been largely confined to his chair. The immediate cause of his death was gangrene, with which one foot became infected about two years ago. Tuesday evening, April 10th, he took a sudden turn for the worse and passed away the following evening. Through his long confinement and painful illness he was a patient sufferer who was not willing to burden others with the load which was his to bear. Besides a large number of friends who have come to respect him for his honest and upright life, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jarvis and Mrs. Geo. Rolin of Clarksville, Mrs. Jim Mellinger of Nashua, Iowa, one son, Howard, of Waterloo, Iowa, and two daughters, Nellie, wife of Lloyd Mann of Lake View, and Nina,wife of Paul Brill, of Sac City. He also leaves the following grandchildren, Viola Mann, Vivian Mann, Vernis James, Lillian Bender, Velma ? and LaVon Hickle, and four great grandchildren.
