Description	:	Milburn was born May 28, 1927 to Harlan and Ruby (Stewart) Sass. He grew up in the Wessington and Huron area until his family moved to Lake Preston in 1944. On June 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lois Beck at the United Methodist Church in Lake Preston. Read More	Milburn was born May 28, 1927 to Harlan and Ruby (Stewart) Sass. He grew up in the Wessington and Huron area until his family moved to Lake Preston in 1944. On June 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lois Beck at the United Methodist Church in Lake Preston. Together with love and guidance they raised 7 children: Susan (Lanny) Olson of Lake Preston, SD; Terry Sass of Lake Preston, SD; Deborah (Blaine) Miller of Whittier, CA; Becky (Dale) Schroeder of Flandreau, SD; Shari Sass of Lake Preston, SD; Tammy Kerr (Denny Rowley) of Spencer, SD and Audra (Roger) Wilson of Badger, SD. Milburn farmed and raised livestock mosts of his life. He was also a butcher at Larson's Market. After he sold his farm, he was employed at the Lake Preston Coop Elevator as a feed man. After retiring from the elevator, he picked up prisoners in Huron and drove them to work at Lake Thompson State Park. Mel was a member of the City Council and also proudly served as Mayor of Lake Preston for several years. Milburn was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge in which he proudly held both local and state offices.
