Porter, a highly esteemed citizen of five miles east of Winfield died Thursday morning at half past two o'clock from a complication of diseases. He underwent an operation last week in hopes that it would prove beneficial and his health be restored. Mr. Porter was born in Illinois on November 20, 1865 and for the past fifteen years has resided in Cowley county. He leaves a wife and five children, Velma, Hobart, Marion and Dean at home and Mrs. Vernon Brothers of Powell, Wyoming, and two brothers, A.E. Porter of Guthrie, Oklahoma and W.P. Porter of Argonia. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church and was an upright citizen in every respect. The funeral will be held from the home of Prof. and Mrs. J.F. Phillips on College Hill, Friday morning at half past ten o'clock conducted by Rev. W.A. Ayres and Rev. G.A. Creekmore. Interment will be made in Graham cemetery. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
