Read More	SHERMAN SMITH Sherman Smith was only six weeks old when, with his parents, Daniel and Louisa Smith,, he left his birth-place in Lorain county, Ohio, and came to the vicinity of Edgewood, Iowa. The light of day on April 17, 1856, witnessed his advent to the earth-life, and on the early morning of September 12th, 1920, his soul went out and up. He had lived 55 years, 4 months and 25 days. With the exception of the few weeks mentioned above, his entire life has been passed within five miles of the town of Edgewood.; After reaching Iowa, the first home of the family was upon the farm west of town now owned and occupied by Martin Hatfield. The departed passed away at the family home five miles southwest of Edgewood, on what has long been known as the William Graham farm. There may be seen the many evidences of the enterprise and thrift which were prominent characteristics of the life now brought to a close. It was a satisfaction in his closing hours to know that he could leave his loved ones so pleasantly and comfortably situated. On June 28th, 1882, occurred the marriage of Sherman Smith and Ella A. Stone. To this union seven children were born. One passed away in infancy, and another, Eliza J. when only fifteen months old. Those living are Mary L. Fry, Maria T. Bacon and the three sons, Everett M., Worthy E. and Leonard M. That their homes are all near meant much to the father in his last days and will help to sustain the widowed mother during the lonely hours which are sure to come. Sherman had three brothers - Henry J. of Edgewood, Ashley of Marion, Iowa, and Daniel, whose present address Is unknown. He also had two sisters, Mrs. Julia Sherwood of South Dakota, and Mrs. Minnie Stone of Edgewood. There were also four half sisters and one half-brother, Edwin Smith of Oelwein, Iowa, who has been present and of great assistance during his brother's last sickness. The deceased was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. During the life of the lodge at Edgewood, he sustained a membership with the Odd Fellow fraternity. While not connected with any church as a regular member, his sympathy was with the work by them carried on and he willingly contributed for their support. The cheery word and the friendly greeting which was with Sherman Smith a settled custom, will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. His words of counsel and advice along the lines of agriculture, his chosen profession have been a benefit to many with whom he came in contact. The cause of the death of the one thus called from our community was the dread and fateful malady, cancer. The tender care of wife and children, the advice of the most eminent and skilled physicians and surgeons and the soliciltude of his host of friend, were alike, powerless to stay the resistless disease. The one thing it could not do, was to rob those who remain of the memory of a loving husband, a devoted father, a faithful friend, a successful business man and a worthy citizen. To the fullest measure, the sympathy of the entire community will be given to the bereaved family. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Methodist church, at 10:00 o'clock, Rev.
