Description	:	Sherwood Green Crocker was born on April 27, 1817 near Mechanicsville, Rutherford County, Tennessee, the son of Bailey Crocker and Sarah Tait. In 1836, Sherwood Green Crocker served as a Private in the Second Seminole War in Capt. John E. Crouch's Company, First Tennessee Mounted Volunteers, also known as the "Franklin Blues." He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Vinson on January 9, 1838, in Middleton District, Rutherford County, Tennessee. Read More	Sherwood Green Crocker was born on April 27, 1817 near Mechanicsville, Rutherford County, Tennessee, the son of Bailey Crocker and Sarah Tait. In 1836, Sherwood Green Crocker served as a Private in the Second Seminole War in Capt. John E. Crouch's Company, First Tennessee Mounted Volunteers, also known as the "Franklin Blues." He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Vinson on January 9, 1838, in Middleton District, Rutherford County, Tennessee. About the year 1854, Sherwood Green and family, moved from Rutherford County to Coffee County, Tennessee, where they settled on a farm near Manchester. Shortly after the Civil War began, he enlisted as a Private on May 23, 1861 in Co. B, 16th Tennessee Infantry. On June 9, 1861, a general election of officers was held and Sherwood G. Crocker was elected 1st Lieutenant for Co. B, shortly thereafter re-designated as Co. E. When he enlisted, Sherwood G. Crocker was just past his 44th birthday. For whatever his reasons, he resigned his commission after about eight months of service on February 2, 1862, at Pocotaligo, South Carolina, and went back home to Coffee County, Tennessee. On November 1, 1862 in Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee, he re-enlisted as a Private in Co. G, 17th Tennessee Infantry. He was wounded in the shoulder at the Battle of Murfreesboro (Stones River) on December 31, 1862. His last military record states that he was present for duty in June of 1863. He is said to have served until the end of the war, however, his name is not found in the paroles of Appomattox where what was left of his unit formally surrendered. About the year 1885, Sherwood G. Crocker, along with his wife, left Coffee County and moved to McLennan County, Texas where their son, Napoleon B. Crocker had settled some years previously. On July 10, 1888, his wife Elizabeth (Vinson) Crocker died of cholera in Moody, McLennan County, Texas. Sherwood brought his wife's remains back to Coffee County, Tennessee for interment and remained in Coffee County until his own death some seven years later.
