Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Shirl was born to James and Agnes (Shirley) Glock in Bismarck. She grew up there and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1963. She attended Bismarck State College after high school. On Sept. 5, 1964, she married A. Charles Bauer Jr. in Bismarck. They lived in Montana for seven years before moving to Harvey, where her husband started his CPA practice. She assisted in his practice for many years. After raising her children, Shirl attended and graduated from Minot State University with a bachelor's in social work and a bachelor's in addiction counseling. She then graduated from the University of North Dakota with a master's degree in social work. She became a licensed clinical social worker. Shirl did her clinical internship at the Fort Totten Reservation. She began her professional career as a LCSW with Unimed Hospital's Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program. She rose to the position of department manager for the CAPH program. Next, she established a private practice in Harvey and did counseling for the Unimed Hospital's Clinic. Shirl's specialty and love was helping children, teenagers in particular. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Harvey. She served on many civic organizations and clubs and the Harvey City Council. She graduated from the North Dakota Law Enforcement Academy, Bismarck, and assisted the Harvey Police Department as a female volunteer officer for years. She was on the Governor's Task Force for the MADD program for four years under Gov. Olson. Shirl was the Girl Scout program leader in Harvey for many years. After learning of her diagnosis of cancer, Shirl started a cancer support group in Harvey. The last project she was involved in was the Harvey Centennial Nature Park. Shirl's hobbies included traveling, antique collecting, stained glass and cooking. She was a gifted decorator and enjoyed decorating for all holidays, especially Christmas. Shirl loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them. She loved her time at their cabin at Lake Audubon and the many activities in Garrison. She always treated others with kindness and was particularly devoted to helping teenagers. Shirl is survived by her husband, Charles, Harvey; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Todd Seibel, Beulah; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim Bauer, New York, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Zachary and Brittney Seibel and Valentine and Rosile Bauer; her sister, Julie Christenson, Bismarck; her sister-in-law, Gayle Goetz, Bismarck; her mother, Agnes Glock, Bismarck; her mother-in-law, Joyce Bauer, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Shirl was preceded in death by her father, James Glock. Memorials are preferred to the Harvey Centennial Nature Park.
