Description	:	Shirley A. Andersen, age 78, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at her home in Yankton. A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Levi Willms officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton. Shirley A. Andersen was born August 10, 1940, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Otto and Dorothea (Kiepke) Huether. Her family moved to a farm north of Mission Hill, South Dakota where Shirley attended country school. She attended Gayville High School for a few years and graduated from Yankton High School in 1958. She married Earl Andersen and moved to various places in the United States and Europe while Earl was in the army. They eventually moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shirley worked in the US Mint in Denver. She then moved to Volin, South Dakota and worked at the University of South Dakota for over 20 years. While at USD she worked her way up to a Master’s Degree and managed the graduate program. She loved the seasonal work at Gurney’s and after her retirement in 1999 began working at W. H. Over Museum in Vermillion cataloging the items. She was a hardworking, dedicated, strong willed, opinionated woman who enjoyed visiting with the students and young people. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching old movies, operas, fishing and traveling to Belize, Thailand and Mexico. Survivors include her three daughters: Jewel (Ken) Stiles of Yankton; Deena (Troy) Walraven of Meckling, South Dakota; and Tracey (Charles Hill) Andersen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six grandchildren: Nicholas (Katherine) Stiles, Shawn Stiles, Chad Stiles, Amy Bahm, Cody Abler and Steve Abler; seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Don (Harriete) Huether of Volin, South Dakota; Robert Huether of Thailand; sister, Dolores Olson of Wright, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Carol Huether of Huron, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Huether and great grandson, Gage Stiles.
