Description	:	Shirley Svenningsen, age 81, of Valley City, ND died at her residence on June 19, 2011. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Tuesday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at St. Catherine's Church one hour before services on Wednesday. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, ND. Shirley Ann (Boughton) Svenningsen was born Aug. 1, 1929 at Sanborn, ND the daughter of Harold and Hattie (Susalski) Boughton. She grew up there and attended school at Sanborn where she was recognized for her accomplishments on the girls basketball team. Shirley graduated in 1947 and then was employed in the nursery at Mercy Hospital at Valley City. She lived for a time in Kennewick, WA and then returned to Barnes County. On Oct. 5, 1955 she was married to Svend Svenningsen. The couple made their home and farmed near Luverne, ND before moving to Valley City in 1979. Mr. Svenningsen died in 1986 and she has continued to make her home in Valley City. Shirley was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City, the Sveninngsen Birthday Club, the Grand Prairie Birthday Club, and the Grand Prairie Homemakers Club. Survivors include her children: Howard (Mary Ellen) Svenningsen, Valley City, ND, Larry (Carmen) Svenningsen, Luverne, ND, Michael Harrison, Luverne, ND, Nanette (Tim) Pollock, Alice, ND, and Robin (Steve) Winter, Oriska, ND, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and siblings: Winnie Borg, Valley City, ND, Richard (Babe) Boughton, Rose Creek, MN, Lowell (Grace) Boughton, Couer d'Alene, ID, Betty Natvig, Black Duck, MN, Bonnie (Bernie) Didier, Sanborn, ND, Irene Didier, Spokane, WA, and Jerry (Clara) Boughton, Cottage Grove, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters, and 2 infant brothers.
