Caledonia Argus 4 June 2004 __________ Shirley Ann Lorraine (Link) Schwartzhoff, 65, of Dorchester, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2004, at home. Funeral services were held Monday, June 7 at St. Mary's Church in Dorchester. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dorchester. Hanson Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements. Shirley was born August 19, 1938, to Raymond and Rhoda (Omodth) Link in Caledonia, Minn. She was baptized in 1938 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Caledonia. She attended Central Catholic Grade School and graduated from Loretto High School, Caledonia, in 1957. In 1957, she began working at Northwest Bell in Rochester as an operator. On August 9, 1958, she married Don Schwartzhoff at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Caledonia. They farmed in the Dorchester area for 15 years. They owned and ran The Dorchester Store in Dorchester for many years. She also worked at the Dorchester Post Office. Shirley greatly treasured raising her eight children and her faith in the Lord. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was famous for her goulash, doughnuts, and jam. She enjoyed attending church and polka music. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester. Shirley is survived by her husband, Donald of Dorchester; eight children, JoAnn (Les) Winters of Waukon, Steve Schwartzhoff of Dorchester, Chris (Chris) O'Connell of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Mark (Sally) Schwartzhoff of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Pat (Bonnie) Schwartzhoff of Spring Grove, Minn., Larry (Katie) Schwartzhoff of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dana (Jason) Fish of Waukon and Nicole Schwartzhoff of Waukon; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (Delores) Link of Caledonia and Luverne (Shirley) Link of Minot, N.D.; four sisters, Beverly Link of Caledonia, Wilma Nelson of Caledonia, Janet (Bill) O'Hare of Cedar Rapids, and Betty Jane Winjum of Caledonia; and many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Rhoda Link, and an infant sister, Virginia Mae. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Travis and Tom Winters, Jason Neuman, Shane Schwartzhoff, Reggie and Ross Baxter, Brandon Holland, Ben Schwartzhoff, Rodney and Emmett Schwartzhoff, and Dakota and Levi Fish. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters: Amanda and Stacy Winters, Krystal Schwartzhoff, Kelsey Baxter, Monica Schwartzhoff, Matison and Jenna Schwartzhoff, and Daphne Fish. ~Waukon Standard, 6/8/2004
