Description	:	WALKERTOWN, NC ~ Shirley Ann Mabe Mounce, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, February 1, 2016, at her home. She was born July 26, 1923 in Stokes County to the late Gilmer and Betty Moorefield Mabe. Shirley was a member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church and was retired from Western Electric with 22 years of service. Read More	WALKERTOWN, NC ~ Shirley Ann Mabe Mounce, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, February 1, 2016, at her home. She was born July 26, 1923 in Stokes County to the late Gilmer and Betty Moorefield Mabe. Shirley was a member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church and was retired from Western Electric with 22 years of service. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. “Mom was gentle, sweet, kind and happy. Such fun! She loved us so! She played in the snow with us, then came in and fixed hot chocolate. We played in the water together at the beach, hiked, and flew kites. Many of our friends considered her a second mother. At Christmas, we’d go into the woods to hunt for pine boughs and running cedar, and she’d show us how to make Christmas decorations. She was always decorating and redecorating the house, and prided herself on her flowers. People would slow down in the street to see them! She was smart, valedictorian at her high school graduation. She was pretty, and stayed that way into old age. She loved to dress up, but would go out and play with us too. And she could cook! Her fried chicken, potato salad, and desserts were legendary. She canned, froze vegetables, and always had good food on the table. Mom was always the first person to take food when a neighbor was sick, to sit with them, and to help with the cleaning. She prided herself on keeping a clean house. She loved long walks on the beach, working in the garden, and children. My, did she love her children and grandchildren. No sacrifice was too much for them. And when Preston was born, her Alzheimer’s was getting worse, but she still held him and loved him so. As far as it is possible here on earth, she was love personified. She lived her life as a witness for Christ.” In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her foster parents: Marvin and Lilly Dillon, brothers and sisters-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Mabe and Mr. and Mrs. Odell Mabe, sisters and brothers-in-law: Maggie Mabe, Elsie and Harvey Manuel, Eldean and Charlie Cardwell, Betty Lou “Bootsie” Ferguson, and Thelma and Troy Webb, two brothers-in-law: Claude Case and Vance Smith, two foster brothers (first cousins): A.W. Dillon, and Glenn Dillon and Paige, and one foster sister (first cousin): Irene Wood and Zack, sisters-in-law: Eileen White and Eris Mounce, and one brother-in-law and wife: Mr. and Mrs. Keith Mounce. A 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Northview Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years: James Faxon Mounce of the home, three sons: Steve Mounce (Gina), Tim Mounce, and Kevin Mounce (Merry), two daughters: Terri Silver, and Kathy Cox (Billy), sister: Polly Case, foster sister (first cousin), Ruth Smith, brother-in-law: Tommy Ferguson, foster sister-in-law: Lucille Dillon, seven grandchildren: Cory Mounce (Heather), Aaron Silver, Shelly Silver Lim (Vincent), Drew Manuel, Tyler Mounce, Maggie Mounce, and Mollie Mounce, one great-grandchild: Preston Mounce, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Northview Primitive Baptist Church and other times at the home.
