Shirley was born on May 7, 1935 in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Johnny and Elsie Katherine (Bellamy) Rumans. She graduated from Udell High School. Read More	Shirley Ann (Rumans) Lockman Brooke May 7, 1935 ~ July 16, 2020 (age 85) Obituary Shirley Lockman Brooke, age 85, of Moravia, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Shirley was born on May 7, 1935 in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Johnny and Elsie Katherine (Bellamy) Rumans. She graduated from Udell High School. Following high school graduation, Shirley was united in marriage to Billy Lockman on May 29, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Judy, Vicky and Cindy. Billy passed away in 1980. Shirley later married Earl Brooke in 1989. He also proceeds her in death. Shirley worked at Wal Mart in Centerville for several years. She also worked at a nursing home in Albia as a Certified Nurse’s Aide. Shirley loved listening to music and dancing, reading, cooking, and camping. The most important part of Shirley’s life was her family. She cherished them deeply. Shirley was a lifelong Christian woman. She was involved in many organizations, including, Sweet Adelines, a Girl Scout Leader, Choir Director of the Children’s Choir at church, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her daughters, Judy (Jerry) Sandstrom of Moravia, Vicky Strickler of Iconium, and Cindy (Tim) Penfield of Moravia; a sister in law, Dorothy Jean Smith of Centerville; seven grandchildren, Billy (Brandi) Strickler, Clarissa (Rusty) Cabossart, Marci (John) Kraber, Jacob (Katelynn) Strickler, Sara (Randy) Mundy, Garrett Penfield, and Lacey (Ryan) Gallagher; fourteen great grandchildren, Jaxon Strickler, Eva Strickler, Riley Cabossart, Autumn Cabossart, Anna Kraber, Grady Kraber, Kiley Strickler, Cohen Strickler, Demi Strickler, Tristin Mundy, Aubrey Mundy, Kinsley Gallagher, Kaceton Gallagher, and Knash Gallagher; as well as several nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Lockman and Earl Brooke; her parents, Johnny and Elsie Rumans; her grandparents; her in-laws, Raymond and Lavonna Lockman; a sister in law, Maxine (Tom) Burdock; a sister, LaVerna (Dale) Riegel; a brother, James Earl (Janet) Rumans; a brother in law, Joe Smith; a son in law, Dennis Strickler; a nephew, Randy Jones; and a niece, Karen Riegel. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Moravia with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia from 12PM-8PM, with the family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00PM. Memorials have been established to the Light of Life Church, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
