Shirley Ann was born on Jan. 21, 1931, in rural Sherman County to Leo and Frances (Otlewski) Sekutera. Survivors are: husband of 53 years, Diz Grudzinski; daughter and son-in-law, Deb and George Lawson of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Michelle Grudzinski of Maryville, Mo.; grandsons, McLain Dorsey and special friend, Holly Grefe of Lincoln, Jad Dorsey of Lincoln, Morgan Grudzinski of Kansas City, Mo., Marcus Grudzinski of Maryville, Mo.; stepgrandson, Merritt Lawson of Kearney and a host of friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Kreller; and her beloved granddaughter, Gina Dorsey. Shirley attended St. Josaphat's Parochial School. Shirley and Isidore "Diz" Grudzinski had their first date at a Popcorn Day's dance and were united in marriage on May 21, 1957, in Loup City at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church. They had two children, Deborah Ann and Michael Alan, with whom they took many memorable family vacations. Shirley worked at Farnham Rexall Drug in Loup City until the store closed. She had a special talent for helping people, and customers would ask for advice on everything from their favorite cosmetic to that special "gift". Children would come in for a "Grandma" hug and sometimes candy. Local people looked forward to Shirley's holiday window displays, which were Loup City's version of "Macy's New York." In Loup City, Shirley attended St. Josaphat's Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sherman County KU Mingle Extension Club. In 1998, the couple retired to Grand Island, where Shirley became a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. Shopping with her daughter, Deb; visiting with her sister, Wanda; cooking, dancing, and playing cards were some of Shirley's favorite activities. She also loved to attend her children's and grandchildren's school and sporting events. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 10/28/2010
