Description	:	Shirley was born to Randall and Ivyl Sims on October 11th, 1935 in Charleston, Illinois. After living and graduating from high school in St.Louis, Mo, she found herself, here, in central Iowa where she met the love of her life, Comer Thayne Henderson. After attending Iowa State University the two were married in 1956 and took up residence on the family farm outside of Waukee. Read More	Shirley was born to Randall and Ivyl Sims on October 11th, 1935 in Charleston, Illinois. After living and graduating from high school in St.Louis, Mo, she found herself, here, in central Iowa where she met the love of her life, Comer Thayne Henderson. After attending Iowa State University the two were married in 1956 and took up residence on the family farm outside of Waukee. For 33 years, until the death of her husband, the two shared in the raising of four children, Marshall Henderson of Dallas Center, Sheldon Henderson of Des Moines, Corey Henderson of Waukee, and the baby of the family, Jana Butler of West Des Moines. These four children gave Shirley seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren with one more great grandchild on the way. While showing love to all of her family and friends Shirley was involved in the community in a way that will be greatly missed. Shirley was a regular correspondent for the Dallas County News, a Cub Scout den mother in her younger years, held positions with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Iowa Genealogical Society. Shirley was involved in the Waukee Public library and its recent expansion. Around Dallas County she was known for her help with the Welcome Wagon and the senior food assistance programs. If that wasn't enough Shirley still found time to be involved with the youth ministries and women's fellowship programs in her home church of First Christian of Des Moines.
