Shirley was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school, Greeley #7 in Audubon County and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1953. Shirley was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school, Greeley #7 in Audubon County and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1953. On October 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Darwin G. Schlater at the Exira Christian Church. They were blessed with three children Connie, Mitchell and Diane. Shirley was a homemaker while the children were young. She was employed at the Exchange State Bank in Exira where she keyed in information for many years until she retired. During her retirement was worked part time at the Exira Public Library. Shirley was a member of the Exira Christian Church and active in the Exira Christian Women. She was involved in Cub Scouts and Bluebirds when the children were young. Shirley enjoyed knitting and crocheting, being with her family and visiting with friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, Darwin G. Schlater; her grandson, Matthew G. Bevil; her great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Schlater; her parents; her sister, Mary Lomeland; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Grover and Allene Schlater; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenny Jessen, Ron Schlater, Barb Schlater. Survivors include her children: Connie, Mitch and wife, Becky and Diane; her grandchildren: Alex, Rebecca, Joshua and wife, Andrea, Mike, Skyler and wife, Jodie, Emily and Molly and husband, Jacob, Abigail, Christian, Jacob and wife, Elisabeth; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Ruth; her brother, Robert and wife, Raydell; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Darrell, Barb and husband, Doug, Bob; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian in Church in Exira with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. There will be a viewing and vitiation Friday, November 16, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
