Visitation: 2:00-7:00 pm, Friday, family present 5:00-7:00 at Spitzer-Miller Fellowship Hall. Shirley Anne Wolner was born on March 31, 1927 to Oscar and Winnie (Bovee) Wolner in Turton, SD. She graduated From Turton High School in May, 1945. In September of that year she enrolled at Woodbury Business College in Los Angeles, CA. She lived at Redondo Beach where she fell in love with the ocean. In 1947 she became a secretary in the business office at Northern State College in Aberdeen and in 1949 attended college at SDSU in Brookings. After completing a year’s study, she accepted a position as the secretary to the Business Manager of Central High School in Aberdeen. On October 6, 1951 Shirley married Connie Everson and established their home on a farm near Columbia, SD. She spent time raising her three children. Education and reading were extremely important to her and for years she was on the Plana School Board. Shirley worked for the Brown County Extension Service teaching nutrition and giving support to many families. Later she became Assistant Librarian and drove the Brown County Bookmobile for over 10 years. Shirley helped students and adults find countless books. Whenever you were with her in a store or event, always someone would recognize her as the bookmobile librarian and talk to her. The service she did had a valuable impact on local rural communities. When the bookmobile was suspended she received many thank you cards from children for the work she did. Shirley is a member of the United Church of Christ, Columbia, SD where she was a deacon and taught Sunday School. For 68 years she was member of the B R Neighbors Extension Club providing service for the community and making many friendships. For many years Shirley was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Claremont. In the past Shirley was a member of the Lee Park Ladies Golf League. Grateful for having shared Shirley’s life are her children: Nancy (Tom) Stofferahn, Humboldt, SD; Rodney (Ellen) Everson, Centennial, CO; Roger Everson, Fargo, ND. Grandchildren: Justin (Erin) Stofferahn, Brett (Kaisha) Stofferahn, Jordan Lidsky-Everson, Clark (Laura) Everson, Erica Everson and Brooke Everson, Great-grandchildren: Micah, Addilyn, Alyxandria, Duke and Jensen Stofferahn, sister, Jacie White, Aberdeen, SD and brother, Jim Wolner, San Diego, CA and many nieces and nephews.
