Description	:	Shirley Schwartz, age 85, of Huron, South Dakota, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 1 PM Monday, April 28th, at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuhler Funeral Home. Shirley Arlene Benthin was born July 17, 1928, to Frederick and Elsie (Lentz) Benthin in Castlewood, South Dakota. She attended school in Watertown, South Dakota and graduated from Watertown Senior High School in 1946. Shirley married Richard Bell on June 14, 1948, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. They moved to Bryant, South Dakota and lived there for seven years before returning to Watertown. Shirley was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Huron. She served as secretary coordinator for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Huron. She had also been active in the American Legion Auxiliary Program, American Lutheran Circle, BCNC Extension Club and the RSVP of Mission, Texas. Shirley married LeRoy Schwartz on August 1, 1980, at the American Lutheran Church in Huron. She and Lee resided in Huron and in Mission, Texas. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress, cook and gardener. She loved socializing with family and friends and traveling. She had traveled around the United States and to Japan, visiting her son and family there. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy Schwartz; and two stepsons, Todd Schwartz and Tony Schwartz of Huron. Shirley is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Terry) O'Connor of Helena, Montana, Rhonda (Allen) Brown of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Linda (Wes Lynch) Bell of Bozeman, Montana; one son, Jack (Mari) Bell of Kawasaki, Japan; two step sons, Tim (Leila) Schwartz and Tyler (Judy) Schwartz, all of Huron; and one step daughter-in-law, Tracey Schwartz of Huron. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five siblings, Darlene Hurlbert of Spokane, Washington, Verlaine Wagner of Tacoma, Washington, Bonnie (Don) Moeller of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Roger Benthin of Watertown and Sharon (Jack) Day of Indianapolis, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
