Shirley was born July 26, 1921, in Sisseton, S.D., the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Wood) Krosch. She attended Dickinson State College majoring in education. Throughout her teaching career she taught country school and served as a teacheris aide in Fort Yates and Selfridge, N.D. She had a passion for educating children, both in and out of the classroom. Shirley farmed in Selfridge, where she kept several head of cattle and a couple of horses. She loved the country life, living in a two room house with no running water until the late 1980's. Through the years, many nieces and nephews, and even great nieces and great nephews helped Shirley on her farm, another way she found to educate those she loved. Her life was always simple. She loved to garden, can anything she could from her garden, read her Country Living magazine, crochet, teach nieces and nephews about life, tend to her animals, bake goodies especially her divinity at Christmas time, and have company. A trip to visit Shirley was never short, she was quick to offer you a glass of cool lemondade or hot coffee, a slice of pie, and could talk to you for hours and hours. Shirley spent her life giving to other people. She was willing to help anyone in any way that she could, putting herself last. She will be missed by her surviving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; ten siblings and several nieces and nephews.
