Born in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late Captain Foster and Jenny (Tanner) Corkum. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who possessed a nurturing care for others. She was a graduate of Mount Allison Academy and Commercial College. Prior to marriage, she worked at the Lunenburg Foundry, and after her marriage at the Department of Family Allowance and the Halifax Regional and Halifax North Libraries for 23 years, part of the time with the Shut-In Services. She retired in 1986. Shirley was a member of Bethany United Church, where she taught Sunday school for a short period of time. Shirley is survived by her one son, Prince Edward Island; three daughters; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother; one sister-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John E. "Ted" Montgomery; a son-in-law, Graham Mason; brother, Lynn Corkum; sister, Patricia "Patsy" Haughn. Resting in J.A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax, NS (477-5601), where visitation will be held today from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 2 p.m. in Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., Halifax, NS B3L 3Y8 (455-0521), with Rev. Vincent Ihasz as clergy. Interment will take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the charity of one's choice. Many thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of 8.2 of the QEII Health Sciences Centre for taking such good care of our Mom. Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting:
