Ms. Outen served in various positions including executive Vice President at Monroe Oil Company for over twenty years. Leaving the businesscommunity in 1989, she dedicated the remainder of her professional life to adult education at South Piedmont Community College with the Union County Department of Social Services. Ms. Outen survived both parents: Douglas Plato and Martha Stephenson Outen. Being born-again and baptized at Sardis Baptist Church in her youth, she was a Christian and maintained a relationship to the Baptist denomination. Surviving relatives include one sister and brother-in-law, Lowell and Nancy Broadway; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Chuck and Penny Griffin and Tony and Kim Griffin, as well as six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and the love of her life, Mr. Sherrill Talley. She is also survived by one cousin with his wife, Micheal and Gloria Stephenson. All of the family resides in and around Monroe NC. Services will be held at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation is at 1pm and services at 2pm followed by burial at Lakeland Memorial Park on Friday, March 20, 2020. Ms. Outen was a bright and glittering light and will be sorely missed... until we meet again.
