Read More	Shirley E. Preheim, 73, a longtime Wenatchee Valley resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Central Washington Hospital following an extended illness. She was born on July 18, 1924, at Plainview, Neb., to Frank and Esther (Russell) Senseney. She moved with her family in the mid-1930s to Manson. It was here where she grew up and received her early education, graduating from Manson High School in 1942. She went on to further her education and graduate from the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1946 at Spokane. She then worked for a time at Fort Lewis following World War II with the Cadet Nurse Corps. She returned to the Wenatchee Valley where she worked as a surgical nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital. She married Thomas M. Armstrong and they resided on Stemilt Hill where she raised her two sons. Shirley was actively involved with many community organizations in the Stemilt Hill area. On Nov. 3, 1972, she married Eugene D. "Gene" Preheim in Wenatchee. The couple lived here in Wenatchee for several years and then moved to Lake Wenatchee for three years. They then moved back to Wenatchee and have been here for the past four years. In addition to her nursing work, Mrs. Preheim taught home nursing, and began work in 1968 at Parkside Manson as the evening shift charge nurse. In the mid-1970s, Shirley began employment as a Realtor for various local real estate agencies and was the Realtor of the Year in 1985. She also owned and operated the Bargain Boutique for a period of time. Shirley enjoyed traveling and did so extensively throughout the world with her family. Age did not slow Shirley's outlook on life: At the age of 64 she learned how to fly a hot air balloon, and bought her first computer at the age of 72. She was a longtime member of the Stemilt Hill Grange, the Wenatchee Kiwanis Club and the Salvation Army Board. She was a 15-year volunteer with the local Red Cross Blood Bank, a member of the United Way Allocation Community, and a member of the Wenatchee Board of Realtors. She chaired the Realtors Food Drive for three years and started the local Kiwanis Baby Food Program. Mrs. Preheim was also a member of the Central Christian Church of Wenatchee. Survivors include her husband, Gene D. Preheim of Wenatchee; her son, Albert Armstrong of Lake Wenatchee; her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Merlyn Armstrong of Lihue, Hawaii; her two brothers, John Senseney of Stemilt Hill, and Ernest Senseney of Wenatchee; her sister, Delores Balcom of East Wenatchee; her seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces; four nephews; and her goddaughter, Anna Shaw of East Wenatchee. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother. Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee.
