Description	:	AURORA — Shirley Petersen, 80, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Presbyterian U.C.C. in Aurora. The Rev. Bruce Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Shirley Jean Petersen, the daughter of John and Agnes (Kotrc) Jensen, was born at Palmer on Nov. 9, 1934, and passed away at Lincoln on Feb. 17, 2015, at the age of 80. She grew up on a farm in Gage Valley and graduated from St. Paul High School. She was employed at the ASC Office in St. Paul. After moving to Aurora, Shirley did in-home babysitting and bookwork. Shirley also worked for ATI in Aurora. On June 19, 1955, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Petersen at St. Paul. In 1972, Ken, Shirley and family moved to Ord and then to Aurora in 1974 for Ken’s career. Ken passed away on April 3, 1997. Shirley was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ and American Legion Auxiliary. She was proud to be a past member of the Seven Star District 38 of Rebekah Lodge. She held several district offices and the offices of Noble & past Noble Grand. She was dedicated to the activities of her children and grandchildren. Shirley loved to sew, crochet, draw, garden, woodwork, watch NASCAR and spend time with her family. She was proud of her Czech heritage and made great kolaches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; parents, John and Agnes Jensen; an infant brother, Lyle; and brother, John Jensen. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Todd William Petersen of Aurora; her daughter, Tonja Sue Petersen-Anderson and her husband, George, of Pocahontas, Iowa; and her three granddaughters, Emma, Olivia and Julia of Pocahontas, Iowa.
