She was born July 1,1926 in Washington, D.C. and was a daughter of the late Don and Eula Mullenax Newcomb. On Nov. 30, 1963, she married Kenton K. Simmons of Monterey, who survives. She was born July 1,1926 in Washington, D.C. and was a daughter of the late Don and Eula Mullenax Newcomb. On Nov. 30, 1963, she married Kenton K. Simmons of Monterey, who survives. She was a member of the Blue Grass United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board and as superintendent of the Sunday School. She was chairman of the Highland County Democratic Party for 10 years and was a member of the Allegheny-Blue Ridge Democratic Women's Club and the Professional Nurses Association. She had been employed at the Highland and Prince William County health departments. She had worked with the Home Health Services, Pendleton County Nursing Home, the Veterans Administration and various other hospitals. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Howard Don Ferrell of Manassas, and a sister, Bonnie N. Pugh of Monterey. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard James Ferrell: a sister Margaret N. Washburn; and a brother, Bruce D. Newcomb. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in the Blue Grass United Methodist Church by the Rev. James W. Tinney and the Rev. Jack L. Schooler. Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery. Highland Recorder August 1, 1963 Mrs. Ferrell, who was reared near Blue Grass, is a daughter of Mrs. Eula C. Newcomb and the late Don Newcomb. She attended county schools and graduated from Deerfield High School. She completed nurses training at Emergency Hospital in Washington, D.C. and also worked there in surgery. She later nursed at Crippled Children's Hospital in Richmond and came here (Monterey) Nov. 18, 1957 after duty at City Hospital in Alliance, 0H. Mrs. Ferrell's future plans are incomplete. Highland Recorder December 12, 1963 Ferrell-Simmons Marriage Is Announced Here: On Saturday, Nov. 30, Shirley Newcomb Ferrell became the bride of Pfc. Kenton Kincaid Simmons at the Twin City Baptist Church in Belton, Texas. The double ring ceremony was performed at four o'clock in the afternoon by the Rev. Doyle Lawson, pastor of the church. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Eula C. Newcomb of Blue Grass and the late Don Newcomb. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther C. Simmons of Blue Grass. Howard Don Ferrell, son of the bride, was the only attendant. Mrs. Simmons is employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marlin, Texas. Pfc. Simmons is now serving with the United States Army. The couple will make their home temporarily in Belton, Texas.
