Description	:	OBITUARY Wauneta Breeze, Wauneta Nebraska Shirley Loris (Pennington) Cooper was born June 17, 1914, in Wauneta, Chase Co., Nebraska and died peacefully as she was preparing for her bed, on Friday evening, September 10, 2004 in Shelby, North Carolina at the age of 90 years, two months and 24 days. Read More	OBITUARY Wauneta Breeze, Wauneta Nebraska Shirley Loris (Pennington) Cooper was born June 17, 1914, in Wauneta, Chase Co., Nebraska and died peacefully as she was preparing for her bed, on Friday evening, September 10, 2004 in Shelby, North Carolina at the age of 90 years, two months and 24 days. Surviving her are one daughter and son-in-law, Lauralee Sherrill (Cooper) Costner & Charles Clifford Costner, a grand son, Gary Paul Dazis, and a grandson and daughter-in-law, Larry Paul and Amanda (Nolen) Dazis, and four great-grand-children, Larry C. Dazis, Tyler L. Dazis, Christopher H. Nolen, and Valerie Ann Dazis, all of these direct family survivors live near each other in northern North Carolina. Surviving also is a sister, Melva (Pennington) Ruhaak or Bakersfield,California; and five nieces: Patricia Collins, Dixie Collins, Reta Carle, Ruth Spencer, and Barbara Johnson, scattered in California, Alaska, Oregon, Nebraska and Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces of her husband, most of whom live in Chase, Hayes, Hitchcock and Red Willow Counties of Nebraska. Proceeding her in death was a daughter, Barbara Ann Cooper, who died in infancy; and her husband, Lawrence Ancil Cooper, of Los Angeles, California (and native of Hamlet, Nebraska,) and her parents, Walter M. and Ora Dot (Bartholomew) Pennington of Wauneta, Nebraska, one brother and sister in law Ivo and Iola (Schram) Pennington also of Wauneta; and a sister and brother-in- law, Lloyd and Martha (Pennington) Collins, of Oregon. Shirley was raised in Wauneta, NE, through her high school years. Shortly after she graduated she moved to Chicago, lived with an older sister. She married Lawrence Cooper in Wauneta on April 12, 1936. They moved to Idaho where she was employed as a telephone operator, and he was a welder in a local machine shop. At the beginning of the second war they moved to Venice, a suburb of Los Angeles, where he was employed in Mc Donald Douglas aircraft factory as a master welder for forty years, when he retired. They lived in Venice from early 1942 to his death in 1994, shortly after which she entered a retirement home until she moved to live with her grandson Larry Dazis and family in Shelby, North Carolina, in January of 2003 where she lived until her death. Grave side services were held Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at the Hamlet Cemetery, Hamlet, Neb. , at 11 a.m. CT with Ray Ridlen officiating. Obituary contributed by Richard Carle
