Description	:	Shirley Louraine Bowers age 86 of Bottineau, formerly from Souris passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center. Shirley Louraine was born Mar 20, 1930 to Oscar & Alma (Olson) Berge at St. Andrew's Hospital, Bottineau, North Dakota. Her older brother Forrest LeRoy Berge died when he was 2 days old (Dec 21, 1926 – Dec 23, 1926). She lived her first years on a farm south of Landa and in 1934 the family moved to her Dad's home place. Shirley Louraine was born Mar 20, 1930 to Oscar & Alma (Olson) Berge at St. Andrew's Hospital, Bottineau, North Dakota. Her older brother Forrest LeRoy Berge died when he was 2 days old (Dec 21, 1926 – Dec 23, 1926). She lived her first years on a farm south of Landa and in 1934 the family moved to her Dad's home place. In 1939 they brought the Andrew Hanson farm northeast of Souris & lived there until they moved to Bottineau in 1947. Shirley attended country schools in Haram & Dalen Townships & graduated Bottineau High School in 1949. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis for the fall quarter of 1949. On Dec 21, 1950 she married Willis (Bill) Emmett Bowers son of Frank Claire & Mary Adeline (Addie Amsbaugh) Bowers, at the Turtle Mountain Lutheran Church. After marriage they lived on Bill's home place north of Dunseith for a short time. In April 1951 they moved to the farm northeast of Souris, and lived there over 60 years, until they entered the Good Samaritan Home in the fall of 2012, where she kept the staff on their toes due to her stubbornness. Bill passed away Feb. 15, 2015. The farm is now owned by grandson Wade Bowers, making it the 4th and 5th generations living there. Shirley collected dolls, music boxes, books and also enjoys riding bike and the outdoors. She also enjoyed doing woodwork. On the weekends you could usually find Shirley taking in the large rummage sales. She is survived by her three daughters, Shelley Bowers of Bottineau, Judy (Clay) Ramsden of Deloraine, Manitoba, Wendy Liberty of Burien, WA. & 1 son Robin (Melonie) Bowers of Souris, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Also several nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Bill, parents Oscar & Alma, brother Forrest, son-in-law Dale Liberty, her father & mother-in-law & brothers & sisters-in-laws. Shirley was the last survivor of the Bowers/Berge branch of the family. Nero Funeral Home
