Description	:	Shirley graduated from Montezuma High School and worked for several years for Northwestern Bell in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She married Max E. Howk on August 18, 1960, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Shirley and Max lived in Ottumwa for many years. In 2002, she moved to Le Mars, Iowa, to be closer to her son Michael Hutton and his family. Shirley loved to give of her time and talents. In 2002, she moved to Le Mars, Iowa, to be closer to her son Michael Hutton and his family. Shirley loved to give of her time and talents. She had volunteered as a reading helper with children at Wildwood Elementary School in Ottumwa and later at Franklin Elementary in Le Mars. Shortly before her death, she was honored as a 1000 hour volunteer with the Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary in Le Mars. She also enjoyed volunteering at nursing homes, reading the Bible to residents. She was an accomplished knitter and embroiderer and also enjoyed cooking and singing. For the last 18 months before her death, Shirley lived at Park Place Estates in Le Mars. She passed away at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
