Description	:	Shirley Mae Newman was born June 26, 1924 at Ute, Iowa the daughter of Clarence A and Lizzie (Palm) Thompson. Shirley passed away on June 20, 2009 in Onawa, Iowa. She graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1943. After her mother's death, Shirley helped her father raise three boys and worked on the farm. She worked at the Dunlap Care Center and later cooked for the Senior Citizen Center in Ute. She loved helping others, gardening and her church. Read More	Shirley Mae Newman was born June 26, 1924 at Ute, Iowa the daughter of Clarence A and Lizzie (Palm) Thompson. Shirley passed away on June 20, 2009 in Onawa, Iowa. She graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1943. After her mother's death, Shirley helped her father raise three boys and worked on the farm. She worked at the Dunlap Care Center and later cooked for the Senior Citizen Center in Ute. She loved helping others, gardening and her church. She was a long time member of the Christian Church and Ladies Aid at Ute, the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Sandra and Gerald "Toby" Shanahan of Mt Pleasant, Iowa; their children, Trevor Shanahan and his wife Becky and their children, Clayton, Ryan, Kasey and Paige; and Kourtne Powell and her husband, Mike and their children, Michaela and Riley; one sister, Ruth Webster of Randle, Washington; sister-in-laws, Josephine Thompson of Ute, Iowa, Sharon Thompson of Onawa, Iowa and Joyce Thompson of New Iberia, Louisiana and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dellace Newman and four brothers, Lyle, Harmon, Earl and Wayne. Memorial services were held Monday, June 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute, Iowa. Pastor Don Collison officiated. Interment was in St Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa.
