Description	:	Shirley Maurine (Bledsoe) Young completed her journey to heaven at the Villages of Jackson Creek, in Independence, Mo., on Friday morning, Dec. 4, 2015, following complications from a fall. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at the El Dorado First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado. Born on September 11, 1926, to Arlie and Bernice Bledsoe in Kansas City, Missouri, Shirley was one of eight children. She attended school in the Kansas City area, graduating from East High in 1944. On October 30, 1946, she married Floyd Lowell Young, eventually moving to El Dorado, Kansas, where she resided from 1953 to 2012. Shirley worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Janney Tractor. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught the New Challengers Sunday School class for decades. Shirley was well-known over the years as a superb seamstress, creating clothes for not only her family but for many neighbors and friends. After moving to the Villages in 2012, she continued her sewing, altering and mending clothes for her resident friends, the staff, and the occasional dog toy. Shirley enjoyed singing and worshipped her Lord and Savior through song at any and every opportunity. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and five of her siblings. Memorials in Shirley’s name have been established at:First Baptist Church, 315 W. Central, El Dorado, KS (Organ Fund), or LifeConnection Church, 3883 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Independence, MO (Hope for the City Fund).
