Description	:	SHIRLEY MAY BEATTY CRAIG Shirley May Beatty Craig, 87, of Keosauqua, went home to be with the Lord at 7:07 p.m., Monday November 22, 2004, while living in Warrensburg, Illinois at the home of her son, Bob Mathias. Shirley was born September 11, 1917 near Keosauqua to Linn and Nellie Mechem Beatty. She attended Mt. Zion Grade School, graduated from Keosauqua High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. Shirley was born September 11, 1917 near Keosauqua to Linn and Nellie Mechem Beatty. She attended Mt. Zion Grade School, graduated from Keosauqua High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. Shirley taught in Van Buren County rural schools, helped on the family farm between Cantril and Milton, worked at Van Buren County Hospital and in Craig’s Home Improvement Store in Keosauqua. She enjoyed playing the organ, sewing, playing Bingo and being with her friends and family. She was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church and attended Keosauqua United Methodist Church and Warrensburg United Methodist Church while living in those communities. She had also been a member of Lions Club, was a past president of Van Buren County Farm Bureau Women, was active in the work of the Extension Service, had served on the Iowa State Extension Advisory Committee, and was active in the Keosauqua Senior Center. Shirley married John E. Craig on April 15, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death May 19, 1995. Surviving are her son, Bob; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Strait and husband, Rex of Keosauqua, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Charlene Marie Beatty and Winona Johnston, and brother, Harlynn Beatty. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and all who had the opportunity to know her. The family appreciates Iola Bales and Snoopy and Mr. Black Cat. Mom enjoyed time with all of them. Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice Home Care Team provided help and support. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 in the new Pedrick Funeral Home, Hwy. 1, North, Keosauqua, Rev. Byron Wixom officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home with family present 6-8 p.m. Memorials to Keosauqua Senior Center, Cantril United Methodist Church or Keosauqua United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to family.
