A fourth generation Nebraskan, she loved everything about the state. She taught in a rural one-room school house before moving to Lincoln where she worked in the Agronomy Department at UNL. Shirley married her hometown sweetheart, Captain Don Clifton on October, 18-1945 when he returned from WWII. They went on to raise 4 children. She loved animals, especially her many grand dogs.
