Description	:	Shirley R. Gardner, 72, Defiance, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio, after a nine-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Shirley was born January 19, 1937, in Defiance County, to Elmer and Leona (Eding) Hoellrich. On June 2, 1963, she married Roger L. Gardner, who survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Melvin and Arthur Hoellrich. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Melvin and Arthur Hoellrich. She is survived by brothers, Lester (Lavina) Hoellrich of New Bavaria, Ohio, and Lowell (Mary) Hoellrich of Florida, Ohio; a sister, Margie Hoellrich of Holgate, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hoellrich, also of Holgate, Ohio. Shirley was a graduate of Ayersville High School and continued her education at Elkhart University where she earned a degree as a medical lab technician. She worked in labs at both Findlay and Defiance hospitals. Following her career as a lab technician, Shirley worked as the activity director of the Holgate Nursing Home for 35 years.
