Description	:	Sidney Albert Woodson, Jr. died Friday, April 10, 2015, in the home his great-grandfather built in 1913, two miles from his childhood home, surrounded by his wife, three daughters, and loving family. Read More	Sidney Albert Woodson, Jr. died Friday, April 10, 2015, in the home his great-grandfather built in 1913, two miles from his childhood home, surrounded by his wife, three daughters, and loving family. Sidney was 80 years old when his earthly body simply wore out. He was born to Sidney Albert Woodson, Sr. and Agnes Urban Woodson on June 17, 1934. He grew up in the community of Rockfish Depot, where his father, and later, his mother, served as Post Master. Raised on the Rockfish Post Office porch, locals knew him as "Bill", the name he ascribed to all men who came to collect their mail. Sidney graduated from Schuyler High School, where he met the love of his life, Bertha Aileen Tomlin. They married July 25, 1953 and Sidney began his work as a lineman for the Chesapeake and Potomac Phone Company. On the weekends, Sidney played catcher in the local Tri-County baseball league where teammates referred to him as "Tobe". After his stint with the Telephone Company, Sidney joined his father in the construction business and became a carpenter. Some of his more notable construction projects include serving as Site Superintendant on the North Anna Power Plant Dam and Nuclear Reactor #1 in Louisa, Va. as well as Site Superintendant for construction of Fashion Square Mall in Charlottesville, Va. In addition, Sidney owned and operated a private construction business, ran a sawmill for Charles D. Roberts of Greensboro, N.C. in Woods Mill, Va., and taught Building Trades at Nelson County High School. After his retirement, he set about sawing a supply of firewood that will keep his family warm for many years. Sidney enjoyed square dancing, playing golf, and working with Habitat for Humanity. He especially enjoyed spending time working in his shop crafting doll houses, cradles, rocking horses, toy boxes, cedar chests and furniture for his family.Sidney's greatest accomplishment, however, was building a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Bertha Aileen Tomlin Woodson of Rockfish Depot; his three daughters who were his pride and joy, Sue A. Woodson (Edward L. Denham) of Charlottesville, Lynn W. Saunders (J. Bennett Saunders) of Roseland, and Judy W. Chiles (H. Huff Chiles) of Batesville. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, the apples of his eye, J. Phillip Woodson (Ellen), of Charlottesville, Sidney A. Witry (Melissa) of Staunton, Samuel W. Denham of Charlottesville, Carey L. Saunders of Durham, N.C., Marshall B. Saunders of Roseland, S. Tyler "Tye" Saunders of Blacksburg, Denis L. Saunders of Roseland, Elizabeth M. Chiles of Batesville, Allyson C. Chiles of Blacksburg, and Henry H. Chiles of Blacksburg; and his two great-grandchildren who could do no wrong, Anna E. Witry of Staunton and Cooper A. Woodson of Charlottesville. He is also survived by his in-laws, Barbara Bradshaw of Crozet, Ray and Shirley Sites of Rockfish Depot, and Marshall "Sonny" Tomlin and Jackie O'Dell of Troy, as well as nieces and nephews, Ronnie Bradshaw (Dotti), Scottie Bradshaw (Debbie), John L. Quick, Jerry A. Quick, Debbie Sites, Kenny Sites (Pat), Tony Tomlin (Cindy), Melanie Tomlin (Michael Hamm), and Tracey Bryant (Matt). Sidney was a lifelong member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber where he served in a number of capacities including Board of Trustees and Church Custodian for many years. Memorial contributions may be made to RSUMC, 1655 Rock Spring Road, Faber, VA 22938 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy #300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Wells-Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston from 6 until 8 p.m. and at all other times at the family home.Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber, Va. at 10:30 a.m.. The family invites friends and neighbors to visit with them immediately following the service at the Woodson Home.
