Howard, son of Henry C. and Cyntha Ann Howard, ws born in Newton county, Missouri, July 24, 1850, and departed this life at his home in Lucas county, Oct. 7, 1931, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 13 days. He came to Lucas county with his parents at the age of sixteen, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage Nov. 9, 1887, to Catherine Lavilla Penick, who preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1928. To this union were born 11 children. Ina Ethel, Charles Earl and Flossie Carrol died in infancy. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Elsie Pim, of Waynesville, Mo.; Mrs. Beulah Edwards, of Churdan, Iowa; Mrs. Katie Inman, of Hope Hull, Alabama; Mrs. Gayle Hall, of Chelan, Washington; Mrs. Ila German, Mrs. Ruth Haines, Mrs. Nellie Homsher and Wayne Howard, all of Lucas. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Paralee Brinegar, of Lucas, and one brother, Will Howard, of Spokane, Washington. Also 36 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. When a young man he confessed his faith in Christ, and has lived a devoted Christian life. Largely attended funeral services were held at the Wren Hill church, conducted by Rev. O. L. Jones of Lacona. A quartette composed of the following, E. B. Mosher, Darrel Parkins, Mrs. Leila Miller and Mrs. S. A. Ralston, with Mrs. E. W. McKnight at the piano, rendered three beautiful selections. Interment was made at the Norwood cemetery.
