Description	:	Sid Hessey, 80, of Yakima, slipped quietly away in the arms of his Savior on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, to meet with those who have gone before. Sid was the youngest of six children born to Sidney and Mary (McReynolds) Hessey, on February 9, 1925, at Fairfield, NE. He grew to manhood in the Fairfield community and entered the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school in 1942. Sid was the youngest of six children born to Sidney and Mary (McReynolds) Hessey, on February 9, 1925, at Fairfield, NE. He grew to manhood in the Fairfield community and entered the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school in 1942. He served on an aircraft carrier in both oceans during World War II and was discharged in October 1945. Sid was united in marriage to Ruth Ferebee of Nelson, NE on May 15, 1944. Following the war, the family lived in Nebraska for four years and in 1949, moved to Pondosa, OR. Sid became a lumber grader at the mill in Pondosa, earning all his lumber certificates there, and in 1959 the mill closed and the family moved to Baker, OR. He graded lumber at the mill there until called to go on the Western Wood Products Association inspection force in 1964. At the time the family was relocated to Yakima. Sid was a member of Englewood Christian Church since 1965 and he and Ruth sang in the Englewood Church Choir for 35 years and served in many other capacities. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Left to mourn Sid's passing are his loving and devoted wife Ruth; two daughter, Jo Dietrich of Ocean Park, WA and Marcia Duncan and her husband Chaplain Greg Duncan of DuPont, WA; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; an older sister Betty Crumrine of Lakeside, OR, and an older brother George Hessey of Ridgefield, WA, and a host of dear friends. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Englewood Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the Englewood Christian Church music fund, or to Habitat for Humanity, in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home. -Published in Yakima Herald Republic 12 May 2005
