Description	:	S. Doris Laxdal, 85, was called home on October 26, 2006, at her apartment in Steele, ND. Sigrun Doris (Walter) Laxdal was born June 26, 1921 at Gardar, ND. She was the daughter of the late Hannes S. and Elin (Magnusson) Walter. Doris grew up in the Gardar area and attended school there and graduated from Gardar High School after which she attended 2 years of college in Mayville, ND. Doris Laxdal, 85, was called home on October 26, 2006, at her apartment in Steele, ND. Sigrun Doris (Walter) Laxdal was born June 26, 1921 at Gardar, ND. She was the daughter of the late Hannes S. and Elin (Magnusson) Walter. Doris grew up in the Gardar area and attended school there and graduated from Gardar High School after which she attended 2 years of college in Mayville, ND. She then moved to Fargo and was a supervisor for Northwestern Bell. She continued with them moving to Grafton, ND and Crystal, ND. Doris married Moritz Laxdal on July 2, 1948 in Mountain, ND. They lived in Gardar, ND for 11 years and then moved to the Walter farm near Gardar. Moritz died on March 17, 1976. Doris then went to work at Borg Pioneer Memorial Home in Mountain, ND, where she worked for 20 years and retired in 1997. She was the kitchen manager and head cook. After she retired Doris was always a faithful volunteer and good friend to the residents who called Borg their home. She was always willing to help with bingo, church, or help drive residents to an outing. Doris was a member of the Gardar Lutheran Church, Gardar Ladies Aide, Homemakers, and Borg Auxiliary. Doris loved to bake and every Christmas she would make Vinarterta, an Icelandic treat, and boxes of cookies for gifts. Doris moved to Steele, ND on September 2, 2006 to be closer to her family. She continued with her volunteer spirit and strong faith, helping with bingo and events going on at the local nursing home. Doris is survived by her family: her sons, Jason of Auburn, NE, Darryl (Diana) of Pinewood, MN, and Noel (Marla) of Bismarck, ND; her daughter, Kathy Laxdal of Steele, ND; her grandchildren, Rianna (Jeff Johnson, fianc), Wyatt, and Marisa; her great-granddaughters, Mara and Malea; her step-grandchildren, Amber and Dustin Noyes; her sisters, Elsie Kempel of Langdon, ND and Lorraine (Moritz) Jonasson of Fairfield, CA and Helen (Neal) Chandler of Jackson, MS. Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband and her sisters, Valgerdur Olafson, Sigga Kempel, and Josephine Winger. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Gardar Church, Gardar, ND with Rev. Erik Heskin officiating. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, Gardar.
