Y., and died in Milford, Kans., February 8, 1906, aged 70 years, 9 months and 9 days. Funeral services were conducted February 10th in the Congregational church, of Milford, by Rev. Marcy assisted by Rev. Carnifax. The remains were interred in Milford cemetery. Mr. Chapman was married to Abigial Higgins January 10, 1855 in New York, where they moved to Rockford, Ills. In 1885 they came to Milford, Kans., where they made their home until 1891, when they moved to Emporia for the purpose of giving their younger children the advantages of the Kansas State Normal. In 1894 they returned to Milford where they have since resided. There were born to eight children, viz. Albert, who died in Illinois about sixteen years ago, Frank and George, of Keats, Kansas, Charles and Ira, of Milford, Mrs. M. G. Keyes, of Rockford, Ills., Mrs. M. L. Baird, of Hillside, Riley county, Kans., and Mrs. L. A. Waters, of Milford. All the living children were at the funeral except Mrs. Keyes who was not able to be there on account of illness. Mr. Chapman's disease, cancer of the stomach, has been preying upon him for the past seven months, the last six weeks of which he had been confined to bed. Comrade Chapman enlisted in the 2nd New York Veteran Cavalry in 1862 and served about one year in the Department of the Gulf. One more soldier's grave to decorate, making thirteen in our cemetery. Dr. Porter, of Clay Center, Dr. Stillman, of Morganville, and Dr. Pearson, of Wakefield, were in town last Friday by invitation of Dr. McCord to attend the post mortem examination of the remains of Mr. Chapman. This examination sustained the diagnosis which the physicians made in Mr. Chapman's case."
