Description	:	Simon C. Davis, son of Andrew B. and Rebecca Ann Rice Davis was born June 22, 1855. On the 9th day of Sept., 1880 he walked with Ellen VanCleave by his aide to the marriage altar and pledged to each other their lives as one to the end of the road, which vow was never broken, but kept inviolate until death separated them. Sarah Blaydes of Ladoga, Ind., Mamie Frame or Ladoga, Ind., Pearl Sprly of Chicago, Amanda Harons of Brook, Ind., Clifford and Dorothy at home. Deceased by occupation was a farmer, in which he proved his efficiency and fitness in all his work. With him nothing was done unless it was done right. He took pride in and loved his beautiful home. He was a honorable, industrious, forward looking man and deserves the title of progressive man. He pretended nothing, but was what he was without deceit. He was neighborly and thoughtful of others. Whatever of fallibles he may have been characterized by, (from which none are free) many virtues made him an outstanding character. Another one of the sons of men has been gathered unto the fathers has reached the end of an earthly pilgrimage, has subscribed his name to the last page of the book of his life. It is his record as he has made it, and it to be understood as he meant it to be. The labyrinth we call death was passed through bravely after many weeks of suffering it is possible to be endured and with remarkable patience. The end was looked for with hope and anxiety by the sufferer and he often expressed a desire for the inevitable end to come. He craved no longer to liver under the heavy affliction that bore him down. In the midst of it all he never forgot to praise his good wife that had for almost fifty years shared with him all that a half century had brought to them in the journey of life and for her until devotion and service to him in his last days. He spoke a father's undying love for the ten children, the fruit of their happy union, who still remain. He closed his eyes to earthly scenes at 1:55 p.m. Monday, May 19, 1930, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 27 days. The storm clouds had been lifted, the sun was shining upon a flowery plane, nature was guilding the mountain tops with a radiance bright, the sea beyond was still, and the distant shore was bathed in the light of the sun that never goes down and a world of immortal beauty like a panorama, was standing out upon the threshold of eternity according to the irrevocable decree of Almighty God when the spirit of Simon Davis returned to him that gave it, for so His word is: Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Left to mourn are the widow, ten children, twenty-one grand children. one great grandchild, three nephews, 3 nieces and friends many. -Crawfordsville Journal Review, May 29, 1930
