Description	:	Simon J. Holden, 74, early-day Chelan bandleader, and associated with mining ventures here, died in the Chelan hospital Monday morning after a brief illness. He was the nephew of J. H. Holden, who owned the property that became the famous Holden mine. Born in Ames, Iowa, July 16, 1886, he came to Chelan in 1903. He was married to Catherine Dulin at Wenatchee, August 12, 1908. A skilled musician, Holden started a boys' band in the community, himself buying many of the instruments for members. Mr. and Mrs. Holden resided in Chelan until moving to Cle Elum in 1936. He was the nephew of J. H. Holden, who owned the property that became the famous Holden mine. Born in Ames, Iowa, July 16, 1886, he came to Chelan in 1903. Mr. and Mrs. Holden resided in Chelan until moving to Cle Elum in 1936. In 1956, they returned to Chelan and resided here since that time. Mrs. Holden preceded her husband in death July 2 of this year. Mr. Holden was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Surviving are four sons, Joseph Holden, Chelan; J. M. Holden, Longview; Patrick J. Holden, Bellevue and S. J. Holden, Tillamook, Oregon' two daughters, Mrs. Herman Schultz and Mrs. Winston Higgins, both of Chelan; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Holy Rosary was said for Mr. Holden in St. Francis Catholic Church last night at 7:30; Requiem Mass took place at 10 o'clock this morning with the Rev. Father Joseph Graaff officiating.
