Description	:	Simon Bjerke passed away May 30th at the ND Veterans Home in Lisbon at the age of 93. Simon was born November 6, 1918 in Norma Township, Barnes county to Christ and Minnie Bjerke. He grew up on a farm there and attended school at Norma Township #1. He later worked for area farmers and the Northern Pacific Railroad. Simon was born November 6, 1918 in Norma Township, Barnes county to Christ and Minnie Bjerke. He grew up on a farm there and attended school at Norma Township #1. He later worked for area farmers and the Northern Pacific Railroad. He joined the army in WW II and served in Europe with the 10th Armored Division. Simon was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. On September 18,1947 he married Vivian Skramstad, they lived in Valley City and Simon worked as a cook at the Rudolph Cafe. In the spring of 1949 they moved to a farm southwest of Kathryn. They farmed there for a year and in September of 1949 moved to a farm east of Nome in Raritan Township, here they lived, farmed and raised 4 children. Simon raised dairy cattle, chickens and crops. Later he had beef cattle and hogs. In 2007 they moved from the farm to an apartment in Enderlin and in November of 2011 moved to the Veterans Home in Lisbon. Simon was a member of the Nome American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and St Petri Lutheran Church. He also served as a Township Supervisor for Raritan township. Simon is survived by his wife, daughter Kathy Carr of Colfax, WA, sons Myron (Grace) of Aberdeen, SD, Dale (Lori) of Page, and Steve of Enderlin. 7 grandchildren Megan (Gabe ) Brannan, Mallory (Craig ) Shindler, Mike Bjerke, Savanah (Josh) Stibal, Krista Bjerke, Erin Bjerke, and Kylie Bjerke. 4 great grandchildren, his brothers Ed and Melvin and sister Loraine Moen. He was proceeded in death by his parents, one grandchild Ryan Carr, and his sisters Thelma Larson, Mable Larson, Eva Pederson, Corrine Larson, and Marcy Johnson. A prayer service will be held at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon at 7:00 pm, June 6th.
