Mr. Roloff farmed for many years in the Lamona area, and in recent years had made his home in the Spokane vicinity. During the past two weeks he has been visiting his sister, Mrs. John Miller, Dryden, where he was taken ill. Relatives her were notified of his serious illness, and Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Werner, Dan, John and Harold Roloff responded, finding him dead on their arrival. Mr. Roloff was born in Bessarabia, Russia and came to the United States in 1900. He homesteaded south of Odessa that year, and in 1903 was married at Ritzville to Miss Matilda Reich, on February 20, 1903. She died in 1936. Four daughters also preceded him in death. Survivors include five sons, Rudolph, Chewelah; Gus, Cheney; Dan, Lamona; John, Osborne; and Harold, Mohler; one daughter, Mrs. Adrian Werner, Canada. Odessa Record: 7-07-1949 Funeral services for Simon Roloff, 69, were held from the Odessa Baptist Church on Friday...Pallbearers included Ed Schindel, George Luiten and George Schillinger, Spokane; Jack Quast, Henry Schiewe and Conrad Hopp, Odessa. Simon Roloff was born July 12, 1879 in Bessarabia, coming with his parents to the United States as a young man in 1900, taking up a homestead south of Odessa. On February 29, 1903, he married Miss Mathilda Reich. To this union 10 children were born, three passing in infancy. His wife preceded him in death in 1936 and one daughter, Violet in 1937. In 1910, he moved his his family to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, where he farmed until 1917 when he returned here, farming south of Lamona until 1936, selling out following the death of his wife, living for a time with his sister in Odessa. He went to Spokane where he obtained work with the Western Fruit Express, making his home with his son Gus. In 1947, he was forced to retire from work due to failing health. During the past two years he spent much of his time at the homes of his sons and daughter in the hopes of regaining his health. He was visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Miller, Dryden, when he was stricken with a heart attack. He died Tuesday of last week at a Wenatchee hospital. Survivors include 5 sons, Rudolph, Chewelah; Gus, Cheney; Dan, Lamona; John, Osborne; and Harold, Mohler; one daughter, Mrs. Adrian Werner, Mohler; and three sisters, Mrs. Miller of Dryden; Mrs. D.S.
